Chateau Thieuley Reserve Francis Courselle Bordeaux 2009 / 750 ml.

Item#: 67442

RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Dec 2011
A sleeper of the vintage, this consistently excellent generic Bordeaux displays a deep ruby/purple color, slightly sweeter, broader and more luxurious flavors than usual because of the vintage, good purity, brightness and a heady finish. Drink it over the next 4–5 years.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2012
This nicely focused red delivers dark fig and steeped currant fruit melded with dark cocoa and tobacco. Shows solid flesh through the finish. Drink now through 2013.
RP87+87–89 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 26th Apr 2010
Two well-made generic Bordeaux are consistently fashioned by Thieuley. Readers who do not want any wood should buy the regular cuvee, but if you like a little oak, the Francis Courselle should be your choice. Both wines possess generous fruit, and lots of black cherry and black currant notes intermixed with herbs and spice. The Francis Courselle cuts a slightly bigger, oakier, more modern image on the palate, but both wines are well-made and reasonably priced. (Tasted once.)

Where It's From

Appellation / Bordeaux

View more wines from Bordeaux

Bordeaux is known the world over for its exceptional wines, particularly red blends made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, among others. These Cabernets aren't typically the full-bodied Cabs you get from California, but rather medium-bodied wines that emanate elegance and sophistication.

You'll also find some refreshing Bordeaux whites and, of course, Bordeaux's famous dessert wine, Sauternes.

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.
