Bring on the bubbly! Perhaps no other wine region in the world has the name recognition of Champagne, to the point where people often mistakenly use the word "Champagne" to describe any sparkling wine. Yet only wines produced within the region can legally be called "Champagne," and to this day it produces some of the finest sparkling wines known to earth.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Aug 2018
The recent disgorgement of the NV Brut Premier Cru Tradition is a blend of 70% Chardonnay from Bisseuil, Pinot Noir (from Ambonnay and Bisseuil) and a bit of Pinot Meunier (from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ), mostly based on the 2014 vintage (80%) plus 2013/2012. Fermented in 60% barriques bordelaise and aged on the second lees for 36 months, this cuvée has an intensely aromatic yet pure and mineral bouquet followed by a full-bodied, pure and powerful yet refreshing palate with lots of fruit and structure as well as remarkable freshness. It’s complex and mineral, a bit loud perhaps and with nice grapefruit bitterness. Still very fresh, it needs some time to gain more finesse and elegance. Disgorged in March 2018 with a dosage of six grams per liter. Tasted April 2018.

RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 3rd Mar 2016
Straw yellow and with a golden hue in color, the Pol Roger NV Réserve Brut displays a brilliant, perfectly ripe but also fresh, highly elegant and refined fruit aroma on the nose; think of cooked pip fruits like pears and apples, but also quince-confiture and yellow stone fruits, such as apricots and peaches intermixed with vanilla, brioche (pain aux raisins), some nutty flavors and also some white floral notes. On the palate, this medium-bodied Brut is as round (if not pretty sweet) and fruit-driven as it is delicate, pure and very elegant. The mousse is deliciously fine and leads this charming and perfectly balanced fizz to a long, aromatic, stunningly dry and slightly mineral, impressively long finish. This is extremely well done Champagne from equal parts of Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay sourced in 30 different crus. This Réserve includes 25% of reserve wines and was dosed with nine grams per liter.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2018
A well-cut Champagne, with a zesty mousse, this offers a harmonious mix of crème de cassis, Honeycrisp apple, candied ginger and toasty notes, offering a subtle, smoke- and spice-tinged finish. Drink now through 2021. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 110,000 cases made, 12,000 cases imported.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2016
This is a well-balanced, ripe wine in the producer’s rich house style. A brighter, more mineral crispness and acidity also come through strongly in this bottling. The aftertaste brings together a mineral texture and full yellow and apple fruits. Drink now.
WS8888 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 31, 2009
Bright white chalk and yellow fruit scents contrast darker tones of root vegetables and earth. This is clean and dry, with minerality that lasts. The acidity makes it a refreshing match for tempura.

ST9393 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2013
Vivid yellow. Powerful, mineral-accented orchard fruits and Meyer lemon the nose, with a sexy floral nuance adding complexity. Stains the palate with concentrated pear, melon and lemon curd flavors, with a smoky, leesy quality building with aeration. Surprisingly lively for its depth of flavor thanks to bright, nervy acidity and a chalky quality. Closes long and toasty, with excellent clarity and lift.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2023
A mouthwatering Champagne, with a delicate, lacy mousse, this offers an expressive, well-meshed range of black currant and apricot fruit, pink grapefruit pith and grated ginger accents, plus hints of oyster shell and chalk. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Drink now through 2028. 3,750 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2017
This nonvintage cuvée sums up the Gosset style in its precise texture and crisp, taut acidity. A blend of fruit from the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, it shows some attractive maturity. Given its balanced, perfumed aftertaste and great fruitiness, this is a Champagne to drink now.
WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2008
Opulent Champagne, this is saturated with ripe fruit, from white peach to white raspberry and lime. It’s gloriously heady, yet the acidity keeps it clear and aligned. Old fashioned rococo elegance.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2018
Rich, with pastry and vanilla accents on the nose, this shows flavors of glazed apricot, chopped almond, kumquat and saline, backed by vibrant acidity on the fine and creamy palate. Drink now through 2021. 500 cases imported.

A blend of four vintages, this fine, mineral-driven Champagne has a taut character. The beginnings of softness are discernible as the bottling ages. It’s likely to be a delicious wine, from 2023. (Roger Voss)

This vivacious Champagne dances across your palate, with the lively acidity finely meshed with flavors of poached apple, blanched almond, spring blossom and candied ginger. Clean-cut, minerally finish. Disgorged April 2016. Drink now through 2020. 600 cases imported.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2020
A rich and creamy Champagne defined by lively acidity, with anise, pastry cream and salted almond notes, and fruit flavors of baked apricot and lemon curd. Minerally finish. Disgorged December 2019. Drink now through 2023.
VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2019
This release of the Selection des Belles Années, based on 2013, is brisk and expressive, with an alluring combination of energy and richness. In the glass, the Belles Années is a touch compact, but a bit of bottle age should help. Wonderfully persistent and inviting, the Belles Années has so much to offer. This release is 80% 2013 Gastronome, with 20% reserve wines. Dosage is 5.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 19, 2018.

A heady style of Champagne, this uses sweetness to bring up the fruit flavors, so it tastes like an off-dry riesling on limestone. The scents bring ginger and cider apple, while the finish is richer, with flavors of peaches and cream. It ends with enough acidity to match a fruit and cheese plate.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2017
Lightly sweet and smoky, with tangy acidity enlivening flavors of white peach puree, pink grapefruit granita and pineapple pâte de fruit. Drink now. 500 cases imported.

SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2023
A graceful rosé Champagne, with an enticing mix of mineral, ripe fruit and floral aromatics wafting from the glass, while detailed notes of baked white cherry and yellow peach, chopped almond, fleur de sel, grated ginger, orchard blossoms and chalk ride the fine, raw silklike texture on the palate. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Drink now through 2026. 550 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2019
This vibrant rosé is tightly knit and racy, with a floral overtone and flavors of peach skin, white cherry, whole-grain toast and chalky mineral showing finely honed precision as they ride the creamy, detailed mousse. Disgorged May 2018. Drink now through 2024. 600 cases imported.
JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, September 2, 2019
A bright nose of strawberry and pink-grapefruit aromas with hints of blood oranges and berries, as well as almond biscuits. The palate has a super vibrant, fleshy ball of fresh red-fruit flavor and delivers a refreshing, minerally finish. Drink now.
RP91+91+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Apr 2020
Based on the 2014 vintage, the new release of Gosset’s NV Brut Grand Rosé is still quite tightly wound after its recent disgorgement in November 2019, unwinding in the glass with aromas of orange rind, crisp orchard fruit and warm biscuits. Medium to full-bodied, deep and muscular, it’s bright and chalky, with racy acids and notable phenolic structure, complemented by a pinpoint mousse. It will really begin to show all its cards after a few years on cork.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2017
This is a soft Champagne — more like a wine with bubbles than a crisp apéritif. With its relatively high dosage and ripe red fruit, it’s rich up front, cleaning up with acidity on the finish. Keep for a few more months and drink from 2018.
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2017
Gosset’s NV Brut Grand Rosé is brisk and chiseled to the core, with plenty of bright cranberry, citrus and floral notes that give the wine lift. Deceptively pale in color and light in body, the Grand Rosé makes its case with persistence and focus. The dry, bracing style is best suited to the dinner table, especially with lighter, fish-based dishes. Disgorged on May 31, 2016. Dosage is 9 grams per liter.
