Oregon didn't burst onto the wine scene until the 1980s, but it has since carved out a name for itself as a world-class region for cooler weather wines like Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It's most famous for the former, with many critically-acclaimed Pinot Noirs originating in the region. The Willamette Valley is Oregon's most famous and most productive region. Other notable regions include the Rogue Valley, Walla Walla, and Columbia Valley.

Country / United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

A gorgeous, vivid nose reminiscent of purple flowers, dark cherries and stones with hints of cedar. This has lush, juicy fruits and a beautiful line of acidity that goes on and on to a lovely, layered, flavorful finish. Good work here for 2013. Drink now.

The Stewart cuvée is lightly smoky, with plenty of up-front flavor. It marries cherry fruit to citrusy acidity, with a chunky, robust core and a crisp, clean finish.

Light and tangy, with a savory edge to the red berry notes and hints of roasted meat on the deft texture. Has presence, in a quiet way. Drink now through 2018. 900 cases made.

An array of ripe red cherries and milk chocolate on the nose with a very plush, supple palate that offers some firmness in the tannin department and ripe red fruit in abundance. Drink now.

Bright and vibrant, this agile wine features powdery tannins brushing against lively raspberry and cherry flavors that linger on the harmonious finish. Drink now through 2022. 400 cases made.
ST9090 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jul/Aug 2014
Deep red. High-pitched red berry and cherry scents are complemented by blood orange, fresh rose and white pepper. Brisk and light on its feet, especially for the vintage, offering nervy strawberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of spicecake. Shows very good focus and purity on the energetic finish, which features silky tannins and repeating florality.
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Mar 2015
The 2012 Cuvee YC Pinot Noir contains 30 percent whole-cluster fruit and sees a nine-month maturation period. It has an aloof, distant nose at first that takes time to come out of its shell, eventually revealing earthy woodland aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red cherry and pomegranate notes on the entry, fine tannins and a nicely poised finish that has quite a length spicy aftertaste.

RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Apr 2016
The 2013 Pinot Noir Athena includes 35% whole cluster grapes and matured for nine months in 40% new oak. It has a crisp, brambly redcurrant and cranberry-scented bouquet that handles the oak well. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe succulent red berry fruit, fine tannin and a crisp, slightly tarry finish. Overall, this is an excellent 2013 Pinot Noir — great value to boot. Bravo!

Black licorice with cedar and a core of dried strawberries. This has plenty of juicy fruit on the front with polished, supple tannins and a medium finish. Drink now.
