This blend of 45% Syrah, 39% Grenache, 9% Mourvèdre and 7% Counoise offers lush aromas of violet, lilac, lavender, vanilla and blueberry on the nose. The palate offers plenty of black currant and spice flavors, with sandy tannins and fresh acidity holding it all in check.
JD8989 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/4/2020
A year-in, year-out winner, the 2018 Cuvée Le Bec checks in as a blend of 45% Syrah, 39% Grenache, 9% Mourvèdre, and 7% Counoise that saw a touch of stems and 16 months in just 15% new French oak. Lots of spiced red and black fruits, exotic spice, sappy herbs, and peppery notes all emerge from the glass, and it’s medium-bodied, with a rounded, supple texture and a good finish. It’s going to drink nicely for 4–5 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

This impressive wine is inviting in floral notes of violet and lavender, while also being pretty on the palate. White pepper adorns a lengthy thread of tangy red fruit, game and well-integrated oak; the wine is balanced in acidity.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Syrah (Sonoma Coast) is a rich, generous wine for Red Car. Inky red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, spice and licorice are all kicked up in this inviting, beautifully textured Syrah. The Sonoma Coast bottling is blended from some of the riper lots on the Estate, and that bit of extra richness is what drives its personality and overall balance.
JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021
Another beautiful wine that’s a Northern Rhône look-alike, the 2018 Syrah Sonoma Coast sports a nearly opaque ruby/plum color to go with an attractive nose of ripe red and black berry fruits intermixed with smoked game, ground pepper, leafy herbs, bay leaf, and a touch of graphite. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a rich, fleshy texture, notable freshness, and bright tannins, all of which give it a clean, classic, very Northern Rhône-like style. It’s a joy to drink today, yet it should easily evolve for 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

A handsome red, expressive and elegantly layered, with cherry and red currant flavors accented by rose petal and savory garrigue. Drink now through 2030. 350 cases made. (Tim Fish)

The 2018 Authenticity shows the focused, structured style of the vintage beautifully. A blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, it has a dense purple hue as well as bright blue and darker berry fruits, supported by ground pepper, violets, and some meaty notes. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, with ripe tannins, it has wonderful purity and balance. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
The 2018 Authenticity is a blend of Syrah with 10% Mourvèdre and was aged for 19 months in 77% new French oak. Opaque in color, it’s aromatically complex, with layers of savory charcuterie, leather, fried sage and thyme over rich Morello cherry fruit. Youthfully boisterous and structurally supple, it offers layer after layer of savory fruit and finishes very long and spicy. It’s approachable now but will continue to evolve in bottle over the next 10+ years. 522 cases were made. (Erin Brooks)
WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022
Elegantly layered aromas of cassis, violet, caramel and maple are rich on the nose of this bottling, which includes 10% Mourvèdre. Polished tannins envelop the palate, which is packed with dark red and purple fruit, creamy milk chocolate and spice-rack flavors. (Matt Kettmann)

The 2018 Syrah from this estate is another majestic example of the variety and actually reminds me of the 2010. Gorgeous blackberry and blue fruits, notes of bacon fat, bouquet garni, and peppered game, full-bodied richness, and flawless balance all make for a captivating Syrah that can be drunk today or cellared for 15+ years. It’s as good as anything out there. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JS9999 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, December 8, 2021
Amazing aromas of graphite, blackcurrant, black pepper, and blue fruit. Slate, too. Full-bodied, yet so agile and light, in a way that makes it irresistible to taste and drink. The palate is full of flavor with extraordinary mushroom, dried-meat., chocolate and black-fruit character. So long, with a creamy texture from the intense yet fine tannins. Great finish. Hard not to drink now, but will be better in 2025.
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2020
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 IX Syrah Estate comes galloping out of the glass with energetic scents of black cherries, mulberries, warm plums and boysenberries plus hints of chocolate box, garrigue, bacon and violets and just a touch of cracked black pepper. Medium-bodied, delicately styled and refreshing, it whispers rather than shouts of fragrant black fruits with soft, rounded tannins coating the long, spicy and floral-perfumed finish. This makes such a great complement to the Cabernet from IX Estate this vintage, it’s almost a shame to split them up!
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Syrah IX Estate is a bold, luscious wine. Black cherry, licorice, smoke, gravel and cracked pepper are some of the notes that infuse the 2018 Syrah with tremendous character. Dense and explosive, the 2018 is a real head-turner from the very first taste. As always, the Colgin Syrah is a wine of real power, plushness and textural intensity, but there is plenty of structure as well. In 2018, the Syrah only suffers because of the stratospheric quality of the Cabernets.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jan 27, 2022
Potent yet polished, this broad-shouldered red offers deep blueberry, bitter chocolate, smoky meat and licorice flavors that build richness and tension toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2030. 350 cases made. (Tim Fish)

The 2018 Syrah Californio, aged 15–16 months in 20% new French oak, is fragrant and seamless. Blackcurrants, plums and blueberries are accented by touches of violet, coffee bean, potting soil and cast iron on the nose. The medium-bodied palate is granular and lifted, with ringing violet perfume and a very long, layered finish. It’s stunning straight from bottle (and highly drinkable at just 13.9% alcohol), but it offers the concentration and freshness to develop savory complexity in the cellar over the next decade or more. The 2018 Eaba is another wine from Jim that puts its foot firmly on the ripeness pedal and offers a blockbuster-like style of ripe black fruits, wood smoke, cured meats, and peppery goodness. Full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, it’s flawlessly balanced, has gorgeous tannins, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming 10–12 years or so. The 2018 is 59% Syrah, 23% Mourvedre, 15% Grenache, and the rest Viognier, aged 22 months in 50% new French oak. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2021
The 2018 EABA is another impressive wine in this range. Ample and explosive in the glass, the 2018 hits the palate with masses of dark fruit, chocolate, spice, leather, tobacco and menthol. Bright savory accents from the 60% stems lend energy and freshness. EABA is mostly Bien Nacido fruit, with dollops from White Hawk, Larner, Harrison-Clarke and Alta Mesa.
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Oct 2021
Deep purple-black, the nose opens with boisterous, rip-snorting scents of plum preserves, blackberry pie, licorice and wild sage, giving way to underlying nuances of candied violets, espresso and charcuterie. The full-on, full-bodied palate is jam-packed with decadent black and blue fruit preserves layers, framed by bright acidity and beautifully plush tannins, finishing long and spicy. Yum!

Bedrock’s Syrah (California) is once again a terrific value in 2018. Dark fruit, chocolate, spice and leather flavors are pushed forward in this bold, punchy wine. Vineyard sources include Hudson, Griffin’s Lair, Alder Springs, Weill, Shake Ridge, Bedrock, Walker Vine Hill and more. A touch of Viognier and some whole cluster inclusion add character.

The 2018 Syrah impresses for its precision and nuance. There is plenty of the textural richness readers have come to expect from Pride, but that is balanced by striking aromatic definition and presence. Floral accents, dried herbs, mint, blood orange and sage add brightness to a core of red/purplish berry fruit. Give the tannins a year or so to soften.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Nov 2020
Coming entirely from Sonoma County, the 2018 Syrah is a blend of 95% Syrah, 3% Viognier and 2% Grenache. Medium garnet-purple colored, it bursts from the glass with bold notes of black cherries, fresh black plums and ripe blackberries plus hints of tar, licorice, bouquet garni and fertile loam. A gentle black pepper character contributes to the crunchy black fruits on the medium to full-bodied palate, framed by rounded tannins and bold freshness, finishing spicy. 1,818 cases were made.
JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
The 2018 Syrah shows the cooler nature of the vintage, with bright, juicy, yet savory notes of red and darker berry fruits intermixed with plenty of peppery herbs and floral notes. These carry to a medium-bodied, elegant Syrah with nicely integrated acidity, ripe tannins, and a clean, balanced style that’s going to evolve for 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

A young wine with superb depth and polish that shows great depth and brightness. Full and focused with blue fruit and long, fine tannins that are compact and energetic. Slate. Graphite. Sophisticated and curated. So beautiful to try now, but be patient and open after 2026.
JD96+96–98 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
A blend of 94% Syrah and 6% Petite Sirah, the 2018 Relentless looks to be just about sensational, offering a dense purple color as well as rich, loaded notes of blackberries, currants, smoked meats, peppery spice, and violets. Reminding me of a great Cornas on steroids with its gamy, exotic character paired with beautiful richness, it has fabulous purity, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. This will undoubtedly be a great vintage for this cuvée, and my money is on it being one of the best yet. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2018 Relentless is silky and polished. In 2018 the blend includes a relatively high percentage of Petit Syrah, but the wine does not taste like that at all. Ripe red/purplish berry fruit, lavender, rose petal, black pepper and sweet spice are laced into the super-expressive finish. This might be the most refined Relentless ever. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2022
A compelling blend that marries deep structure with richness and polish. Features accents of black cherry, grilled anise and smoked pepper, with refined tannins on the finish. Syrah and Petite Sirah. Drink now through 2032. 3,300 cases made. (Tim Fish)
RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Nov 2019
Deep purple-black colored, the 2018 Relentless is a barrel-sample blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Petite Sirah. It sings of crushed black cherries, mulberries and black plums plus cracked pepper, garrigue, lavender, Indian spices and licorice hints. The palate is full-bodied, firm, spicy and energetic with rounded tannins and a long, peppery finish. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
