Critical Acclaim

JS91 JamesSuckling.com Friday, May 3, 2019

"Tons of cocoa and a wealth of ripe forest-berry aromas give this full-bodied and rather concentrated Napa cabernet plenty of appeal. The balance of sweet fruit and supple tannins on the palate is pretty good, but this is a big boy. Where are the ribs? Drink now." (91 pts.)

RP92+ Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 29th Mar 2019

"Deep garnet-purple, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Rattlesnake gives up notes of baked blackberries, crème de cassis and blueberry pie with hints of Marmite toast, chocolate box, menthol and cigar box. Full-bodied, the richly fruited palate delivers mouth-filling black berry preserves and savory layers with a compelling backbone of freshness and velvety tannins, finishing on a lingering minty note." (92+ pts.)

SP93 Wine Spectator Oct 31, 2019

"Dark and burly, featuring ganache and tobacco notes out front, followed by a core of steeped plum, blackberry and black currant fruit. Shows ample grip, with lots of sage, sassafras and briar details stepping in on the finish and assimilating well into the fruit and structure. Best from 2020 through 2034. 1,100 cases made." (93 pts.)

Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
