RP90 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 29th Apr 2022
"The red 2019 ATANCE was born out of the idea to make a wine from the grapes from the Casa Segura property north of Venta del Moro at 800 meters in altitude that were sold in bulk—a wine with little intervention, from hand-harvested grapes, a straight fermentation and short élevage. This pure Bobal comes from vines planted in 1975 on limestone-rich soils. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in 10,000-liter stainless steel vats for one week and two to four more days of maceration. The wine matured in 8,000-liter French oak vats for three months. It’s 13.5% alcohol and has a pH of 3.62. Despite the data, the wine feels quite ripe and open, a little too advanced for its age. It’s round and juicy, has weight and is polished, with a chalky finish. The 2019 cold spell in the Mediterranean didn’t reach here. 43,158 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2020. "Dark ruby. Spice-accented cherry and dark berries on the fragrant nose, along with a hint of candied flowers. Fleshy, round and smooth in texture, offering blackberry and cherry compote flavors that slowly firm up through the midpalate. The spicy quality recurs on a long, supple finish that shows just a hint of tannins. This is quite delicious right now. (Josh Raynolds)" (90 pts.)
