This is a generous and fruity wine with attractive black-pepper and wood-smoke accents that add complexity to the plummy, raspberry-like fruit qualities. It’s full bodied but smooth and easy to sip. (Jim Gordon)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Aromas like bourbon and soy meet flavors of dried herbs, raspberries and black cherries in this full-bodied dry wine. It creates a good mouthful of flavor and has a healthy dose of tannin for a nicely firm texture.

Succulent dark cherry, tobacco, spice, cedar and leather flesh out in the 2016 Zinfandel Oakley Road Vineyard. Expressive aromatics give the wine shape and expansiveness that is matched by the raciness of the sweet, pliant fruit. Exuberant and forward, with terrific depth and fine balance, the Zinfandel is a winner from Joel Peterson.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2018
From vines planted in the 1890s, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Zinfandel Oakley Road Vineyard rocks up with an incredibly spicy nose of cloves, cinnamon stick and anise over a core of prunes, raisin cake and sandalwood with a waft of potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, the palate explodes with berry preserves and exotic spices notes, with a lively line and chewy tannins, finishing with lingering dried fruit nuances. 150 cases produced.
