Critical Acclaim

JS93 Friday, July 2, 2021

"Red berries and cherries with hints of sweet vanilla, almost honey, and some flower petals. Full-bodied, round and silky with firm, fruit and spice-coated tannins and a long, savory finish. Needs time to integrate. Try from 2023." (93 pts.)

RP90 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 17th Jun 2021

"The Andrea Oberto 2017 Barolo del Comune di La Morra is subdued on first nose, with a classic approach of dark fruit, dried currant, cherry confit, spice and tar. Compared to many of the wines from this challenging vintage, this expression from the Oberto family is more graceful and polished overall, although that extra power and the alcohol content (measuring 15%) do not go unnoticed. As such, you’ll want a nice cut of beef and a heaping side of roasted potatoes with this. Production is 19,000 bottles. (Monica Larner)" (90 pts.)

VN89+ Vinous Feb 2021

"The 2017 Barolo del Comune di La Morra is a soft, fleshy wire to drink now and over the next handful of years. Black cherry, tobacco, licorice, leather and spice are nicely pushed forward. All the 2017 needs is a bit of time to shed some of its youthful tannin. (Antonio Galloni)" (89+ pts.)

Located in northwestern Italy near the Italian Alps, Piedmont is home to two of Italy's more famous wines: Barolos and Barbarescos. Each of these wines are made with the Nebbiolo grape, which is the premier red grape in the region. Other red grapes of note used in Piedmont include Barbera and Dolcetto. Among white wine grapes used in Piedmont are Moscatos, which are increasing in popularity here in the US. Piedmont's capital city Torino is also home to large productions of Vermouth, also made from Moscato.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.
