Altair Sideral 2007 / 750 ml.

Item#: 69280

ST9292 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - May/Jun 2012
Glass-staining ruby. Sexy aromas of cherry-vanilla, potpourri and Cuban tobacco, with smoke and licorice accents in the background. Fleshy, sweet and expansive, showing intense red and dark berry and bitter cherry flavors that pick up spiciness with air. Supple tannins add shape and grip to the finish, which leaves a sweet cherry note behind. This suave wine drinks very well now, especially with some decanter time; it should age nicely over the coming decade.
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Dec 2010
The 2007 Sideral is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. Purple-colored, the nose is reticent but displays notes of cedar, pepper, sage, cinnamon, blackcurrants, and blueberry. On the palate, it has a Bordeaux-like elegance, vibrant, savory flavors, and a lengthy finish. Drink it over the next 6–8 years.
SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2011
Toasty sage and herb notes lead the way. This features a core of currant and black cherry fruit backed by a lightly firm edge on the finish. Not generous, but focused. Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. Drink now. 7,000 cases made.

View more wines from Chile

With its stunning, snowy mountains and beautiful beaches, Chile would be captivating even if it wasn’t turning out some of the most interesting and accessible wines in the world. But large producers like Concha y Toro and Casa LaPostolle have put Chile on the wine map with their complex yet value-driven Merlots and Cabernets, and lately smaller regions like Maipo, Casablanca, and the Bio Bio Valley have become more widely available.

Now, Syrah, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, and even that elusive beast of the wine world--affordable Pinot Noir—have joined the ranks of Chile’s most famous offerings. And don’t forget Chile’s signature grape, Carmenere--a peppery, purpley beast that goes wonderfully with grilled meat dishes. Best of all, Chile offers some of the best value in the world, with many outstanding wines selling for under $12.
