In Germany's most renowned wine region, Mosel, Riesling is the flagship variety. These whites can range from dry to sweet, light to rich, but are always known for their well-balanced acidity and layers of orchard fruits and minerality.
Many wine regions of Germany are found along major rivers, and the Mosel is no exception, stretching along the Mosel Saar Ruwer. Dry Riesling wine in Germany is popular among the native drinkers, but for export, sweeter styles are still far more popular.
Other principle grapes from the area include Gewurztraminer and Dornfelder, but they are far less common than the Rieslings.
