Bright orange hue. Sweet bouquet of vanilla, spice, and dare I say it, Sherry; an enchanting aroma profile that’s simultaneously creamy and zesty. On the tongue, rich flavors of sweet oak, honey and light toffee delight the taste buds as much as the velvety texture. Finishes opulent and sweet, but never cloying. One of America’s best-kept whiskey secrets.

Marginally dull honey brown color; good purity. Smells of uncooked corn and baking spices (alternately nutmeg and cinnamon); further time in the glass uncovers a leathery, grain kernel, black pepper dryness that’s atypically attractive and diverting. Entry is extremely peppery and aggressive spirits-wise, but firm, meaty, and attractively focused on the corn; the fiery midpalate is potent and delightfully corny and oaky sweet, with background tastes of honey, nut paste, nougat, and black tea. Ends on a bittersweet, oaky note. Lots of unbridled power here. Approach this brawler with caution. Recommended.

The shiny new copper penny color is unblemished and nothing short of beautiful. The tight-as-a-drum aroma after the pour is acutely spicy, cereal grain sweet, and even a touch citrusy; following seven more minutes of aeration, the aroma takes flight as fruity/resiny scents enchant the olfactory sense in their grace and integration; a near-textbook rye bouquet. The flavor at entry is laser beam-focused, snug, and concentrated; at midpalate, the flavor profile goes deeply cereal-like, almost honeyed/sherried, and intense. Concludes a tad fiery (it’s 101-proof, don’t forget), zesty, toffee sweet, and nougat-like.
