96–100 pts. : December 1, 2005

An irresistible powerhouse of a vodka bouquet, assertive, concentrated, dry, and grainy. The palate entry has plenty of grainy/spirity giddy-up with a note of sweetness; at midpalate the spirit warmth fades, leaving behind the biscuity/wheat cracker taste of the grain and a velvety texture. Ends up as assertively as it began.

This flavorful, reasonably priced vodka reads almost like a light gin, from the citrusy, juniper-like scent to the zingy anise and coriander notes. It’s even better with ice, which coaxes out a little more sweetness and spice. Made with American grain.

Skyy is best known for its flavored vodkas, but this will please most unflavored vodka purists, too. Overall this vodka is neutral in aroma and flavor, with a hint of vanilla and a crisp, light finish.

Medium body. Licorice, charcoal, grain. Delicate, soft texture. Interesting blend of toasted flavors complemented by an impression of sweetness. Elegant, refined style.

85–89 pts. : July, 2004

The grain takes a backseat in the early sniffing stages as bittersweet bean- and kernel-like scents dominate; later whiffs merely confirm the intense bean/cocoa quality. Palate entry mirrors the bouquet to a tee; at midpalate, the kernel-like intensity turns smooth and viscous on the tongue. Ends bittersweet and oily.

Medium-bodied. Aromas of charcoal, minerals, licorice and marshmallows. Somewhat toasted flavors on the palate with a grainy mouthfeel.

Hard to imagine a more neutral nose that could explode with flavors on the palate. Warm and rich, with some tropical fruit tones that clean up as the finish slowly evolves.

Good weight on the palate with pleasing heat and citrus notes in the finish. Very good.
