Sauvignon Blanc
Top countries producing this wine: |
A crisp, aromatic white, Sauvignon Blanc is responsible for some of the world’s most popular and most distinctive wines. Composing white Bordeauxs, Sancerres, Pouilly-Fumés, and a host of other great whites, Sauvignon Blanc is loved throughout the wine world. The most recognizable characteristic of Sauvignon Blanc is its oftentimes piercing aroma, sometimes described with words like“grassy," "herbaceous," and "musky." This crisp, white varietal is cultivated worldwide. Popularized in California in the 1980’s by Robert Mondavi, under the name Fumé Blanc, an oaked version of the wine, Sauvignon Blanc began to be enjoyed with enormous success in the United States. One of the best values in Sauvignon Blanc comes from France under the guise of White Bordeaux, where it’s blended with sémillon. It is also grown in Australia and New Zealand; New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs are considered some of the finest, by critics, hailing their intense, mouth-puckering bell pepper and herbaceous flavors. |
