In a world where distillers routinely announce their vodka is distilled X number of times, it’s refreshing to see that Prairie says “each batch is distilled as many times as necessary,” usually four to six times. The resulting spirit is equally refreshing; smooth, lightly sweet, with a creamy feel and clean finish. Distilled from corn, the vodka also is certified organic and kosher.

The limited bouquet displays the merest hints of grain and spirit; aeration only adds a distant stoniness and a flash of textile fiber. Palate entry is sweet, medium-weighted in texture, moderately oily and very clean; midpalate reflects all the qualities found at entry, adding nothing new. Its neutral posture is acutely evident throughout.

Clean and neutral with an interesting note of sour mash; warm, full texture with a hint of sweetness. Welcome heat through to the finish with notes of cereal and mandarin orange.

A clean, creamy vodka produced from organic corn grown by a Minnesota farmers’ co-op. The leftover cobs are converted to biofuel that powers the distillation.

Made from Midwest organic corn. It smells unremarkably neutral in the opening sniffs, coyly displaying the merest hints of grain and spirits don’t do much aromatically except for a distant stoniness and a flash of textile fiber; in short, not much happening here in the bouquet. Palate entry is sweet, medium-weighted in texture, moderately oily, and very clean; midpalate reflects all the qualities found at entry, adding nothing new. Its neutral posture is acutely evident throughout and that, I have to admit, is its strength as a vodka. It fulfills the definition. Recommended.
