85–89 pts.Wine Enthusiast: March, 2004
The initial inhalations expose a moderately spicy, black peppercorn perfume; aeration brings about flax, cooked vegetables, and brown sugar. The platform flavor is intensely cocoa-like, then at midpalate, the taste leaps into deeper cocoa/bittersweet chocolate territory before turning lean and keenly bittersweet, oily and chocolaty in the finish.

Tawny, mahogany. Medium body and sweetness. Leather, sweet pipe tobacco, dates and molasses. Deep, fragrant and woody. Plush texture. Complex.

Dark chestnut. medium-bodied. Figs, aromatic pipe tobacco, roasted grain. moderately light texture. A bit soft, even diffuse on palate. Sweet fragrances are the hallmark here.
Quarterly Review of Wines: April 1, 1998
Dark/amberish in color; a tame sort of rum; soft, accessible; a bit woody with a molasses note in the taste and nose; not a complex rum; has a fairly even finish. A rum better taken with tonic water.
Market Watch: May 1, 1997
This cola-colored rum from Jamaica coats the mouth and gives off some woody, earthy tones.
