Golden and mild. Look for notes of brown sugar, oak and warming baking spice throughout, ending on a crisp, bright finish.

Initial aroma is caney, grassy and fruity. Palate entry is crisp, moderately sweet and properly bittersweet in bearing; midpalate displays excellent balance, sweetness level, medium-bodied texture, and even some background cinnamon spiciness. Finishes long, crisp, nicely sweet and caney, and delicious.

Light gold in color, this fragrant rum rings butterscotch, hazelnut and tangerine aromas to the nose. The body is medium, and quite buttery, and the palate is similar to the nose, but here some spicy notes — cinnamon and nutmeg — are also found. The finish is smooth and medium in length.

Amber with a copper cast. Medium-bodied. Clover honey, dried herbs, pineapple, orange blossoms. Compact texture, a bit sharp on the palate. Flinty, dried fruit components are key. well balanced with a nice fragrant finish.

The nosing passes find soft sugary/molasses smells and aromas of marshmallow, almond paste and light toffee. The palate entry is slightly smoky and properly sweet; tastes of honey and vanilla extract are found at midpalate. The finish is smooth, soft and very drinkable. A well-made molasses-based rum.

The soft sugary molasses smell in the first whiffs is mellow and gently sweet; aeration releases aromas of marshmallow, almond paste, and light toffee. The palate entry is slightly smoky and properly sweet; the midpalate phase highlights flavors of honey and vanilla extract. Finishes smooth, soft and eminently drinkable.

Highly Recommended. Impeccably clear and pure. Initial aroma is caney, grassy, and fruity in the most pleasing manner that has RUM written all over it; aeration brings out the fruit element more than either the grass or cane, making for pleasant sniffing. Palate entry is crisp, moderately sweet, and properly bittersweet in bearing; midpalate displays excellent balance, sweetness level, medium-bodied texture, and even some background cinnamon spiciness. Finishes long, crisp, nicely sweet and caney, and delicious.

Smooth on the palate with clean, light molasses and orange-tangerine notes to the finish.

Golden hue; good but not a compelling bouquet (which seemed to be the only drawback to an otherwise much appreciated rum); very smooth, with sweet notes in the finish; altogether very successful. Taken neat or with tonic water or other beverage, the Mount Gay is delicious.

This rum from Barbados has a slightly woody flavor and a sweet, smoky finish.
