Walnut, date, cinnamon and dried blood orange notes are backed by a long finish that lets a singed balsa wood hint hang on. This has an echo of sweetness but remains rather dry in feel. Drink now.

#82: A dry version of a traditional Amontillado Sherry, this fortifies wine is produced using the solera system customary in south-western Spain's Jerez region and designed to produce a consistent style from year to year. Owned by Luis Caballero Florido, the Lustau estate encompasses 540 acres of vines, the source of the grapes for this 100 percent Palomino wine. The wine is aged in 500-liter American oak barrels in a facility in the heart of Jerez de la Frontera.

Initial inhalations encounter deep aromas of leather bound books, butterscotch, and prunes; more time in the glass deepens the leathery aspect and adds a pleasing note of walnut. Entry is lean, clean, tart, and astringent; midpalate features the acidic dried fruit element that dominates the taste profile. Ends cleansing, very tart, and austere. Three Star rating stands. Recommended.
