Opening whiffs detect subtle, skillfully balanced scents of barely ripe mango; the aroma turns into an ambrosial bouquet that highlights the mango but offers lesser aromatic roles to pear and papaya. Palate entry is tart, even bitter, then at midpalate the flavor turns ripe and succulent. Aftertaste is sweet and fresh.

The Cruzan craze continues: Cruzan Mango Rum is the latest in their run of flavored rums. At a mild-mannered 27.5% ABV, the Cruzan flavored rums aren’t head-knockers, but they are stuffed with fruit flavor, and the new Mango is no exception.

Perfect clarity; like all Cruzan flavored rums the opening whiffs detect subtle, skillfully balanced scents, this time of barely ripe mango — with time in the glass, the aroma turns into an ambrosial bouquet that highlights the mango but offers lesser aromatic roles to pear and papaya — a lovely, understated bouquet of the first rank; the palate entry is tart, even bitter then at midpalate the flavor profile becomes gently ripe and succulent, totally true to the mango essence; the aftertaste is long, sweet and fresh; what David van de Velde’s Van Gogh is to flavored vodkas, Todhunter’s Cruzan is to flavored rums, meaning quite simply the category benchmark; outstanding quality and value.
