Lush and incredibly soft for a Carménère, the Casa Julia is instantly likable. Braced with rich black pepper, marjoram and other spice notes, there is also an undercurrent of green pepper and dill that adds terrific complexity. A smidge lighter than a Cabernet, this wine would still work well with any hearty meat dish, and I’d love to try it with a steak loaded with peppers and onions.
