Deep ruby. Blueberry and violet aromas are complicated by smoke and cracked pepper; seems like there’s more syrah in here. Energetic dark fruit flavors are a bit clenched initially but gain flesh with aeration and pick up more sweetness. A peppery quality lingers on the smoky, slightly rigid finish. This needs a little air.

The 2009 El Posadero is made up of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Syrah aged in stainless steel. Deep crimson-colored, it displays a bouquet of earth, mineral, game, leather, and blackberry. On the palate it has similar tannin issues which clip the finish but there is enough fruit to provide immediate pleasure.

If you loved the Zestos and Zestos Especial, Jeromin’s El Posadero is definitely worth checking out. A blend of 85% Tempanillo with 15% Syrah, this medium-bodied red is loaded with juicy black fruit and rich spice notes. Terrific for sipping, the Posadero also complements a wide range of meat and hearty vegetable dishes — I especially loved it with a spicy sausage paella.
