Vivid red. Spicy raspberry and cherry aromas are strikingly fresh and pure. Lively and incisive on the palate, with brisk flavors of wild strawberry, raspberry and cherry preserves. Minerals kick in on the finish, which is tangy, precise and quite long. These vines are reportedly more than 60 years old.

This is another wine from Emili Esteve and Manuel Martinez of Vinos Sin Ley (“wine without law”), those innovative, creative producers of great value wines. The Zestos Especial (85% Tempranillo, 15% Syrah) is from Arganda del Rey, arid plains south of Madrid. The wine is deep garnet with purple edges and has flavors and aromas of plum, blueberry, ripe, red cherry, strawberry, clove, cinnamon, black pepper and licorice. It has medium body, smooth tannins and a medium tangy finish. Buy this graceful, delicious wine by the case! Enjoy with smoked polish sausage, grilled chicken or steak, or barbecued ribs. Salud!

About an hour south of Madrid you find the D.O. region Vinos de Madrid, where the great bargain wine Zestos Especial is produced. A blend of 85% Tempranllio and 15% Syrah, this wine is a perfect fit to nearly any dish. With the Tempranillo you get the full flavors and the sweet berry taste, and with the Syrah you get the spice and the deep color. Perfect for everyday drinking.
