The 2006 Pinot Noir was tasted in London with cranberry and raspberry leaf on the nose, just lacking some definition on the palate.

People have a tendency to overlook New Zealand Pinot Noir, perhaps because of its great success in producing world-class whites. However, the cool, maritime climate and excellent soils make regions like Marlborough perfect for growing Burgundian-inspired reds that combine Old World structure and finesse with New World ripe, super-bright fruits that appeal to many wine drinkers. The 2006 Delta boasts cherry, violets and a touch of raspberry on the nose and palate, with such vibrant acidity that it is easy to imagine pairing with just about anything. Beyond the classic matches of salmon, tuna and pork, I envisioned serving this with paella or risotto. This wine has instant appeal for Oregon wine drinkers looking for something different, those who enjoy ripe fruits but find California wines to be too overpowering, and those who like classically styled wines but are looking for something less dusty or earthy. And the lighter style makes this refreshing for anyone who just can’t bear to give up their red wines, even in the sweltering summer heat.
