The entry-level 2005 Poggio alla Guardia is a fresh, vinous wine with perfumed fruit and an accessible personality. It is best enjoyed over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2008–2010.

Easygoing, with ripe cherry, berry and red licorice aromas. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a fruity finish, leaving a light chocolate aftertaste. Slightly earthy. Drink now.

I really love this wine. It’s pure elegance in a glass showing striking black cherry color with a whole host of robust aromas. Radiating from the glass is a myriad of fragrances reminiscent of sweet black fruits, blueberries, flowers, mint, clove and minerals. Medium-bodied with firm structure a healthy vibrant acidity gives a freshness to the finish. Don’t miss this, it’s a winner! Drink on its own or enjoy with spaghetti Bolognese and kick it up with some freshly grated Reggiano.
