The 2006 M5 is from Yecla. Dark ruby-colored, it has a serious perfume of smoke, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry. Ripe and full-flavored, it has excellent depth and length. It has 2–3 years of aging potential but can be enjoyed now.

Ruby-red. An array of candied dark berries and flowers on the nose. Creamy, round dark fruit liqueur flavors are gently supported by dusty minerality. Picks up an intriguing spiciness on the long, juicy finish. I like the interplay of fruits, flowers and minerals here.

Another 100% Monastrell, but this one coming from Yecla, one of the grape’s strongholds in Spain whose warmer climate brings out the best in this varietal. Flavors of kirsch and fruit preserves are accented with notes of pie spice, with pleasant smoked meat and coffee aromas around the edges. The flavors are intense and long, with excellent balance and persistent presence — the kind of wine you taste all the way down your throat.
