88 pts. Wine Enthusiast: October, 2007
A little rugged on tannins, but rewarding for its wealth of cherries, cola, licorice, spice and sweet oak. Finishes dry and quite long. Could pick up some nuance in a few years.

Pleasantly earthy, with cola, dried cherry and a dash of pepper, gaining richness and depth on the palate. Ends with an elegant feel and a hint of sassafras. Drink now through 2011.

88 pts. California Grapevine: September 1, 2007
Medium-light to medium ruby; attractive, forward, intense, spicy, slightly stemmy, cranberry and cherry fruit aroma with a hint of rhubarb; medium-full to full body; rich, spicy, red cherry fruit flavors; slightly tart and lean on the finish; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Tannin tended to overshadow the fruit.

An intellectual wine — by that I mean this wine needs contemplation and relaxed drinking to fully appreciate the subtle depth and powerful concentration that slowly dawns on the taster. Gutsy and structured like a Burgundy, but silky in texture with ripe black cherry, herbs and plum skin flavors.
