Bright ruby-red. High-pitched aromas of redcurrant and eucalyptus. Sweet, fat and deep, with currant and mint flavors enlivened by piney high tones and a strong fynbos character. Quite idiosyncratic but has sweetness and a rather suave texture.

On the sweet side, with plum and currant jam flavors, followed by dark chocolate and mint notes and a round, easy finish. Drink now.

South African wines are very often hidden treasures that receive less attention than wines from other, more popular regions. They exhibit the best characteristics of their distinctive region: both the influence of the maritime climate and the unique blend of sun and soil. A deep, velvety red in color, this earthy Cabernet from the Western Cape is a simple beauty that reflects the soil of its native region with hints of spice, coffee and lush, dark fruit. It has been matured in French oak for one year, lending smoothness to balance the earthy tones, and the finish is long and lasting.

This wine lives up to the name of the winery. The brooding flavors — reminiscent of forest floor, licorice, black currant, rich blackberry liqueur — swirl throughout this beautifully crafted “black pearl” of a Cabernet. Full bodied, lush and deeply layered, this is an earthy, fruit-forward style of Cabernet.
