Burt Notarius: October 30, 2003
A delicious, enticing raspberry aroma with hints of cherry and toffee flavors and an elegant, lingering finish make this one of the top Cabernets in the world. In fact, it won an award as one of the top ten Cabernets in the world from the Bordeaux Wine Council. Only 6,000 bottles were imported for the entire United States — shop early so you’re not disappointed.

The Berengario was crafted as a tribute to the first king of Italy — a royal creation comprised of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon (the king of red grapes) and 40% Merlot. Now more than 10 years in the bottle (following 12 months in Allier oak barrels) this luscious wine has evolved into a supple and complex red, adding dried fruit, leather and cedar notes to the elegant cassis, black cherry and anise flavors. Drinking beautifully now, but is built to last several years longer.Bonus: it comes in beautiful six-bottle wood cases that are great for gifts!
