Lovely floral aromas of berries, violets and minerals. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and a racy finish. A harmonious yet well-toned Warre. Reminds me of the 1991. Best after 2010.

Straightforward yet intense, ripe black raspberry liqueur and cassis scents are followed by a medium to full-bodied, elegant, restrained, balanced port with moderately high tannin as well as outstanding purity. It is a vintage port with impeccable finesse. Anticipated maturity: 2007–2020.

Majestic Port in its purple vestments, this vintage of Warre’s 2000 is classical and complete. Often the most immediately accessible of the Symington’s vintage range, Warre’s offers a bright, gripping richness, sweet and open. It’s enjoyable now for the jasmine and other floral aspects of the fruit, yet at ten or twenty years from the vintage, it will be that much more satisfying.

An unprecedented low yield contributed to the marvelous concentration of the wines produced in this vintage. The very low bunch weight and the fact that the berries themselves were very small also meant that there was much less juice than usual relative to the amount of skins. Consequently even more extraction of color and flavors was possible than in other years. Ideal weather during the vintage, with cool nights followed by hot days, added the finishing touch to the variety of factors which culminated in a classic year. At least 5 years (we recommend up to 20) in the cellar will reward the purchaser with a great wine.
