The 2008 Carro is 50% Monastrell, 20% Syrah, 20% Tempranillo, and 10% Merlot fermented and aged in stainless steel. Purple-colored, it reveals a fragrant bouquet, of violets, damp earth, incense, and blueberry. On the palate it has surprising grip and concentration for its humble price and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. It will provide pleasure over the next three years.

Deep violet. Fresh red and dark berry aromas and flavors are complemented by notes of dried rose and cracked pepper. Begins rather light but gains weight with air and finishes with good persistence and a slightly bitter edge.

Spain continues to produce some of the best wine values in the world. Carro, from the southern region of Yecla, is a blend of 50% Monastrell, 20% Syrah, 20% Tempranillo and 10% Merlot. This red sees no oak, so the purity of the fruit really comes through and opens your senses to the complexity of this wine. Ripe berries, pepper, and herbs are intertwined and balanced with a surprising tannin level. The finish is long and layered in fruit. A great wine at a great price.
