The no-nonsense opens up with marshmallow, light toffee and light honey. Early taste is sweet and molasses-centric, then at midpalate there’s a spiced honey flavor that gently guides you to the creamy, cake frosting finish. I liked this affable spiced rum when I first reviewed it 12 years ago and I still like it.

Gold, amber tint. Medium body and sweetness. Hints of honey, fig, graham cracker and toasted almond. This rum is flavored with unnamed spices which are readily apparent. Mild, easy drinking.

Medium amber, dark gold cast. medium-bodied. Toasted almonds, cream pie, mocha, all-spice. Mild texture. Gentle, yet brisk feel on the palate. Quite flavored, although sweeter nuances dominate spices. Light, easy finish.

Spicy on the nose with smooth flavors of caramel and a gentle sweetness. Very pleasant, with vanilla in the balanced finish.

It’s become fashionable to hate on the Captain, but with a pronounced vanilla scent and sweet caramel flavor, it’s easy to see why it’s endured all these years. When mixed, it blends right in and becomes easy sipping.

A subtle nosed and golden-colored rum with a refreshing flavor alternating pepper and cinnamon notes.

Made with molasses, water, grain and yeast, and distilled in a continuous still, the brand’s characteristic taste really is achieved through the final addition. A unique and proprietary recipe of exotic, indigenous island spices produce a rum that has pirated away the hearts of rum fans all over the world.
