92 pts. Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate: June, 2009
The 2005 Libranza was sourced from 120-year-old vines and aged for 14 months in French oak. Dark ruby in color, it is a bit more expressive aromatically as well as more concentrated. On the palate, savory, ripe black cherry and blackberry flavors nicely conceal enough ripe tannin to support 5–7 years of additional cellaring. It will offer prime drinking from 2014 to 2025.

Deep ruby-red. Richer and more powerful on the nose than the Juan Rojo, offering potent aromas of cherry and plum liqueur, with hints of cola and vanilla. Broad, deep, palate-staining dark fruit flavors are framed by chewy tannins and gain a strong licorice note with air. The finish repeats the cherry quality and leaves a smoky note behind.
