92 pts.: Fall, 2014

Rich, multi-layered nose: vanilla, cornmeal, berries (black raspberries, wineberries), and broad-shouldered oak. Powerful, but not overproof hot in the mouth; controlled. The berries sing a high counter-melody over the corn-oak beat as the whole experience rocks along. It’s powerful, sweet, authoritative, and finishes with a reprise of it all: berries, corn, vanilla, and stronger oak. Mature, complete bourbon with a 7 year age statement, and a real sleeper in the Small Batch Collection.

Deep amber, with a copper cast. Citrus, roasted nuts, sea air, cedar. Rich, full texture. A rush of deep flavors attack the palate accompanied by a good dose of heat. Quite complex with a peculiar, refreshing note in the middle. Sensational aromatics never cease. Greater depth is realized in the broad, lush finish. A tour de force !!

90–95 pts.: June, 2005

Opening nosing detect concentrated, litchi nut, deep roasted grin scents; aroma turns baked, buttery, oaky and almost brandy-like with aeration. Palate entry is integrated, sweet, and slightly peppery; at midpalate there’s a sweet oak/vanilla rush that backs off prior to the finish, leaving behind taste traces of spirity heat, vanilla extract, cake frosting, butter cream and resin. Evokes thoughts of Cognac, in particular, from the Borderies district.
