Lively and focused, displaying a nice beam of raspberry and pomegranate fruit, laced with subtle spice shadings. The nice, juicy finish has a pleasant white pepper twang. Drink now.

This plush local red is the very first estate Syrah from our own budding Niagara USA wine region. Arrowhead Spring, built right into the slope of the Niagara Escarpment, has a prime vineyard location for red vinifera wines that show elegance, depth, and a haunting minerality. At only four years old this vineyard has produced a Syrah that suggests great potential for the grape in this area. On the nose the wine offers lively red currant, cranberry, and blueberry, beautiful vanilla notes, and touches of clove and cinnamon. The palate is full and extremely smooth, with the sensual “purple” quality typical of fine cool-climate Syrah and a wonderful kick of white pepper. Firm acidity, a suggestion of chalkiness to balance the fleshy palate, and just the right amount of oak make this wine one of Niagara’s most exciting offerings. Don’t make up your mind about New York reds before trying it.
